Li shot to fame at just 10 years old, when he became the youngest performer to win the junior category of the prestigious Menuhin competition in 2018.
Not his only 'first', in 2020 he became the youngest musician ever signed to the Decca Classics recording label, and in 2021 is the youngest violinist to professionally record Vivaldi's The Four Seasons. Appearing on his debut solo album, Li not only performs Vivaldi's enduringly popular work, but also directs the orchestra.
In this video, filmed during the album recording, you can see Li directing while barefoot. According to the violinist: "The very dramatic passages make me naturally feel the music and stomp my feet... But there were lots of sensitive microphones everywhere which picked this up, so in the end I had to take my shoes and socks off! It was the first time I’d ever taken my shoes and socks off to perform."
