About SEAL

SEAL is a nonprofit with a powerful research- and evidence-based approach to advancing the educational outcomes of multilingual learners. For more than 15 years, we've worked across the state of California, partnering with preschools and elementary schools, districts, county offices and other educational stakeholders to ensure all English Learners and Dual Language Learners learn, thrive and lead.

We believe love for learning starts early, and requires persistent and engaging practice and application. Our whole-school strategy—from family partnership to culturally and linguistically responsive school environments—works to bolster language development, literacy, and champion success and joy in academics.

Educator Practice

We bring a dynamic blend of teacher training and leadership growth to our educators and administrators, sparking cross-school collaboration and building internal coaching and capacity to support all students. SEAL-trained teachers report increased confidence in their work, as well as feeling more empowered and effective in engaging with Dual Language and Multilingual Learners and their families.

Proven and Rigorous Research

Effective education demands continuous advancement. We conduct research in our classrooms, pilot new approaches, and publish insights, findings, updates, anecdotes, and more to advance the field’s understanding of what works for Dual Language and Multilingual Learners.

Policy & Advocacy

Lifelong joy for education starts in the classroom, and lasting change requires effective policy. We advocate for better opportunities for all students by using our research, practice, and analysis to connect schools and administrations to policies and policymakers that advance the needs of our students.
