此前，在 2023 年 11 月 21 日，BBC 正式宣布自家持续了 46 年的全球著名汽车评测节目 《Top Gear》 正式完结。
Jeremy Clarkson 曾于 1988年 起深度参与老版《Top Gear》的主持等工作，并在 2002 年开始担任改版之后新版《Top Gear》共计 22 季的当家主持。2015 年，因与 BBC 制片人 Oisin Tymon 发生争执，产生肢体冲突，被迫解雇。随即，与 Jeremy Clarkson 在《Top Gear》中已搭档了 13 年的主持 James May 和 Richard Hammond，以及制片人 Andy Wilman 等人一同申请离职。几人成立新的制作团队，并在同年，在亚马逊的资助下制作了全新的网络汽车电视节目《The Grand Tour》。
三位风靡全球的主持以及主创团队的相继离职，再加上新主持团队更换频繁，需要大量时间磨合等问题，使得新版《Top Gear》的收视率持续走低。2022 年 12 月，新主持团队之一的 Andrew Flintoff 在伦敦拍摄《Top Gear》节目期间发生严重车祸，导致面部毁容，并指责 BBC 多次在没有充足安全防护的状态下安排各种不合理的高风险环节。最终《Top Gear》在 2023 年 10 月 7 日被宣布无限期停播，随后于次月 21 日 BBC 宣布正式完结。
Jeremy Clarkson, James May 和 Richard Hammond 三人离开 BBC 之后，除创建了《The Grand Tour》外，还在进行各自的单人网络节目的制作。Jeremy Clarkson 的 《克拉克森的农场》，James May 的《詹姆斯·梅的厨房 Oh cook!》以及 Richard Hammond 的 《哈蒙德的修车房》均有出色的成绩，得到了所属平台的多季续订。
2022 年 12 月 16 日，Jeremy Clarkson 在英国《太阳报》（The Sun）的个人专栏中锐评英国哈利王子与妻子梅根，给自己引来了“取消文化”的舆论大火，最终导致该专栏在《太阳报》官网下架。其个人网络节目《克拉克森的农场》被传因为此事亚马逊正在考虑停止第四季及其之后的续订。
