Abstract
This study aimed to investigatethe relationship between basic needs, social anxiety, and loneliness amonguniversity students. The study focused on a sample of 412 university studentscurrently enrolled in colleges in Taiwan, using a non-random sampling methodknown as snowball sampling. The statistical software SPSS was utilized, and theresearch instruments included the "Basic Needs Satisfaction Scale,""Social Anxiety Scale," and "Loneliness Scale." After datacollection, analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, one-wayanalysis of variance (ANOVA), Pearson's correlation analysis, and hierarchicalregression analysis. The findings of the study are as follows:
1. The satisfaction level of basic needs amonguniversity students was moderately high, social anxiety was moderate, andloneliness was relatively low.
2. There were significant differences in basic needssatisfaction and social anxiety between different genders, but no significantdifference in loneliness.
3. There was a significant negative correlationbetween basic needs satisfaction and social anxiety among university students.
4. There was a significant negative correlationbetween basic needs satisfaction and loneliness among university students.
5. There was a significant positive correlationbetween social anxiety and loneliness among university students.
6. The "need for love and belonging" amonguniversity students was the strongest predictor of loneliness, showingpredictive power for loneliness.Based on the researchfindings, recommendations are provided for college students, relevantprofessionals, and future researchers as a reference.
