It's not the usual black metal, though it has elements of it, it's slow, powerful, vibrant, clear, and melodic, but it's on the slow & deep, melancholic side too, a blend of sludge, doom, and BM maybe. Interesting result, though on the short side altogether, but the three tracks are making up 24 min and change in total. Maybe just fine as is! Favorite track: 1831. David Fischer After Ruin, I expected something way more heavy-hearted and heart-wrenching. Whilst opener Cloaked in Ash is an atmospheric masterpiece and 1831 serves as the face-ripper, it is closer Resilience that gets me every time: rearing its head like an ever-mourning Hydra, it takes its time to build quietly. As it reaches its tipping point, it truly conveys the feeling of carrying the weight of the world - but it somehow feels bearable. A fascinating track, absolutely living up to its name. Favorite track: Resilience. Favorite track: 1831.

The first 30 seconds of "Revenge by Fire" convinced me to get the whole album! It is a face-melting blend of speed and black metal, reminiscent of Hellripper! KVAEN is a Swedish solo project much like Hellripper but many known guest musicians helped J. Björnfot in his endeavor. Altogether it is really a solid debut album, I loved the melodies and the pace changes in the second half too, ending with a "calm" instrumental one. Well-done!! sashavonkarl74
