PayPal allows payment through credit cards, bank accounts, buyer credit, or PayPal account balances. You can use PayPal as a payment provider for customer checkout and processing for your Shopify store.
PayPal is one of Shopify’s default payment providers. As soon as you open a Shopify store, you're
given a PayPal Express Checkout account that is linked to the email address you used to sign up for your Shopify store. Before you can collect payments for orders made with PayPal, you need to
set up your PayPal account

Third-party transaction fees apply on all third-party and alternate payment gateways even if
Shopify Payments
is activated. However, if you have Shopify Payments activated, then PayPal and manual payments are excluded from third-party transaction fees.
Buyer credit is available only for your customers with PayPal accounts based in the United States or the United Kingdom. There is no additional setup required to enable buyer credit for your customers.

If you're based in the United States, you can't use PayPal to pay your Shopify bills.
As of October 1, 2021, merchants in India can't use PayPal as a payment method for paying Shopify bills. If you currently use PayPal, then you need to change your payment method to one of the accepted credit cards or co‑branded debit cards.
