格罗滕迪克当初为什么选择从泛函转行去做代数几何？

Grothendieck told me in 1985 (1986?) that he was proud of the fact that
his published thesis got a prize as one of the most quoted papers. I
just looked it up in MathScNet and it has 335 citations given there（至今他的泛函分析博士论文在Mathscinet引用是500多，可见其重要性，二战后泛函分析领域最重要进展之一). On
the other hand he writes that he found in analysis not enough geometry,
and relished the wider pastures in algebraic geometry.
